Mitch Bell’s Jazz Emissaries present Short Stories…

A night of jazz inspired by the music of Wayne Shorter.

One of Mitch Bell’s earliest influences in the jazz world was American composer and saxophonist, Wayne Shorter. Through the inspiration Shorter’s music provided, Mitch Bell carved out his own unique voice. With the help of his 8-piece band, and special guest Milly Sargeant of local indie folk band Milly and the Maths Show, Mitch Bell and the Emissaries of Jazz will bring to life a mixture of original jazz with new arrangements of classics from Wayne Shorter and beyond.

Starring: Al Wheeler (trumpet), Chris Stover (trombone), Harold Brysen-Dean (drums), Jesse Carmona (saxophones), Max Fowler-Roy (bass), Max Irvin (saxophones) and Steve Newcomb (piano).

The Emissaries bring together some of the finest musicians in the South-East Queensland’s jazz scene boasting an all-star cast with decades of experience in Australia and internationally. This is a night not to be missed for lovers of jazz and all the music lovers of Ipswich.

Jamiesha @ Northey St. Winter Solstice Festival

 —  —

Northey St. City Farm, 16 Victoria St., Windsor, QLD

The Winter Solstice Festival is back for 2026, lighting up Northey Street City Farm on Saturday 27 June! Come celebrate the changing of seasons with a night of music, markets, bonfire and festivities.

This year, we Return to the Light – inspiring us to work together to create a better world for all. Our theme speaks to our values at the heart of every Winter Solstice Festival: community, sustainable living, and creativity. Just as we create fire and lanterns to stay connected with one another in the dark, we seek community and care to find hope in difficult times.

Join us for an immersive day of inspiring workshops and panel discussions, ethical food and maker markets, live music, and activities for the whole family. And, of course, our annual bonfire and lantern parade!
